Food item hurled by demonstrator reportedly exploded and caused mustard stain on immigration officer, trial told
A American border officer has testified he could detect through his protective gear the force of a deli item launched at him by a capital city activist, who has gone on trial for criminal charge.
Federal border agent the government official told the legal jury the snack "shattered all over him" and he "noticed the aromatic vegetables and mustard" on his uniform.
No party challenges that the defendant, in his thirties, did in fact hurl vulgar language and a made-to-order snack at authorities deployed by President Donald Trump to patrol the Washington DC in August.
The occurrence was captured on camera and went viral, making Mr Dunn a symbol of protest in the capital to the administration.
Government prosecutors originally tried to obtain serious criminal counts against the defendant, but a legal panel chose not to indict him.
The former president's sending of military personnel to the federal district this summer sparked protest from some of the DC citizens, who considered it a politicisation of the military.
Per legal filings, the accused came near a police contingent at about 23:00 on the summer date, referring to them "authoritarians" and yelling: "Why are you here? You are not welcome in my city!"
The court saw a demonstration from the agent on the trial day as he gave evidence against the accused.
"I detected it through my ballistic vest," he stated of the item's force, noting that an onion string hung from his communication device and condiment discolored his uniform.
The accused's attorney, Julia Gatto, stated in her initial argument that launching the deli product was a "innocent action that did not, could not, result in harm".
But government attorney the state's representative said the defendant must be considered responsible.
"Regardless of identity, you can't just go around hurling objects at people because you're upset," the prosecutor declared.
Subsequent to the reported incident was revealed, the defendant was terminated from his position as a legal assistant in the federal legal agency.
